I grew up in Muncie, Indiana and after graduating from Muncie Central H.S. I attended Ball State U. where I studied fine art and design. After graduation I worked in the printing and reprographics business as a camera operator & darkroom technician. Eventually I returned to my education and worked in the advertising and sign industries.
I have left those worlds to work for myself creating artwork and design for what I most enjoy, motorsports. Having joined SCCA many years ago and traveled to several race tracks to enjoy sportscar racing, I started to employ my talents again. Beginning with race car graphic designs for friends & illustrations of race cars for myself. In 2004 I showed my work at the SCCA Runoffs and the work was so well recieved that I have had this website created to showcase what I do.
What I do is create images of race cars on track, in action from photos, either photos I have taken or photos I have researced or photos supplied to me by the driver or owner. I try to put the excitement of the movement into the painting so the viewer can see and feel the power and speed. I can do this to motor cycles, boats, airplanes, anything that moves and raises the heart rate. Another of my creative directions is graphic design- logos, race car graphics, t-shirts, helmets. As I develope this site I will be adding more examples of these things so come back often to see what I have added.
Recently a very good friend, Bruce Grant and owner of SCOOTERS, a v-twin motorcycle parts shop, encouraged me to create airbrush art for his motorcycles. With his support I have done that, which opens another avenue for me and I thank him for that. You will find examples of this and ideas of what I can do with an airbrush on these pages in the gallery section in the upcoming months.
During my life I made many friends and colleques that have supported and encouraged me, and I thank them all! One that stands out is a long time friend, a tremendously creative photographer and artist Wilbur Montgomery. Wilbur has given his time and professional services to me many times, thank you my friend! Another I would like to thank is Bruce Neckar, another artist that has told me almost every time I have seen him that I am doing the right thing. Finally I want to thank my family, to my deceased father for passing along his creative genes. To my Mother for supporting and encouraging her little boy. To my children Heather and Anna, (who are both creative and if their old man would have taken the time to teach them could have been artists or designers) for loving and believing in me.To my loving wife Winnie for all her support both moral and financial during our life together. And I thank God for putting me here and giving me my talents.
